The major aims of the speaking and listening programme should be:
• to ensure our students become progressively aware of what makes an effective speaker and an effective listener (e.g. pace, stance, eye contact, questioning, volume and audibility, ability to engage with an audience/speaker)
• to involve as large a number of our students as possible in as wide a variety of speaking and listening activities as possible
• to foster the confidence, trust and skills needed by our students to contribute their ideas and listen to others in small and large groups in formal and informal situations
